‘I worked so hard I lost 6kgs,’ says The Block star Steve as war of words with TV boss heats up
This season of The Block hasn’t been without controversy.
It was nail guns blazing earlier this week when Steve O’Donnell did his block over his portrayal on the high rating home renovation show, and now the shows co-creator and producer has weighed in on the saga.
It comes after O’Donnell had written on his personal Facebook page that the program made him out to be in some way ‘mentally deficient’ and ‘inept’.
The amateur renovator has toned down his social media activity since Monday’s rant and even went as far as to say forgetfulness and a lack of sleep were to blame for some of the more damaging comments he made.

News.com.au reported that according to O’Donnell, the proof of his hard work can be seen on his shrinking waistline.
‘There are no ways to get things done (on The Block) other than to work hard. I lost around 6 kilos from the start.’
He said his character was on the line.
‘I’ve got a lot of friends and family that have watched the show. I want them to be proud of (me)…I’d held my tongue thinking ‘you know what, this will turn around and I’ll be shown to be working my butt off’ but by that time (Monday night) there was not much shown to the public to give them any kind of evidence of my input.’
The show’s co-creator and co-executive producer Julian Cress said the chimney sweep had raised his concerns to production staff before the rant.
Cress said O’Donnell agreed to disagree on the editing and that there would be no restrictions on contestants posting comments on social media.
The longtime co-creator and producer and the production team’s perspective about what occurs on site can be different between each contestant and that it wasn’t their intention to upset contestants.
‘Steve’s perspective on what happened on the day does not need to be the story, however on balance we want to put a show to air that he and Chantelle are happy with. When there are 60-odd hours of The Block being screened, it’s (contestants being happy) not going to happen on every occasion.’
He said over the course of each season there has always been a difference in opinion on how each episode is portrayed.

On Monday the 35-year-old Melbournian claimed that a conversation with a furniture supplier was switched with the bathroom supplier to make him look unprepared and host Scott Cam’s voice over was ‘the most ridiculing aspect of the show to date.
He also proclaimed, ‘I think I p*ssed off a producer early and now they’re out to punish me.’
O’Donnell said on Thursday that his Facebook page had been restricted to ‘friends’ only and deleted the friend who leaked his criticism of the reality show to the media.
‘I thought it was going to a few valued friends, it wasn’t an open forum, and my personal information has been handed over to the media. I’ve spoken to the person involved and I’m bitterly disappointed. I considered them a mate. I’ve quickly closed my Facebook account and we are no longer mates on the social network.’
The inexperienced Melbourne couple are up against twins Alisa and Lysandra who won The Block last year, Brad and Dale who are also former contestants and married couple Kyal, who is a carpenter, and Kara who are new to The Block.
The Block: Fans v Faves screens Sundays at 6.30pm and Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on the Nine Network.
